Bunko (文狐) is one of the main protagonists of the My Master Has No Tail series.
Appearance[]
Bunko has short, dark purple hair and eyes. She has a slim appearance and wears a traditional kimono.
Personality[]
Bunko is a calm and collected woman. At first, she rejects Mameda becoming her disciple due to fulfilling Buncho's wish of ending the Daikokutei name with her. However, Bunko eventual grows to care for her as she makes Mameda her disciple.
History[]
Bunko was once worshiped and valued. As time passed, development destroyed her shrine. She fended off against the industrial revolutionists until getting succumbed to her wounds. Fortunately, Bunko was approached by Buncho Daikokutei as he took her in.
Relationships[]
Mameda[]
The first and only apprentice of Bunko. Mameda was moved by her rakugo performance, making her want to become a rakugo master instead of tricking humans. At first, Bunko was extremely hesitant to take her as a mentee. When the two were separated to "test" her apprentice's loyalty and worthiness to become a Daikokutei, Bunko was seen imitating her mentee when eating dinner alone, showing how much their relationship has changed Bunko's character as the plot progressed.
Buncho Daikokutei[]
He took Bunko when she was still in the for of "Fox of Seven", who passed her the name of Daikokutei as she kept developing a much more refine interest and skill in the world of rakugo. Just like Mameda, Bunko was moved by Buncho's rakugo performance, allowing her to develop a new fond perspective and relationship with humans. His last wish was to end the Daikokutei bloodline with Bunko.
Byakudanji Tsubaki[]
While Byakudanji treats Bunko as a little sister, he caused a huge portion of the theater a lot of trouble due to his astronomical debt, and she claims that "it's a waste of time to expect anything from him". Bunko recognizes him as the King of Laughter when she was briefly introducing the "Big Four" of Japan's rakugo.
Enshi Kirino[]
Having a rough start with Bunko, Enshi is secretly jealous as to why Bunko got the Daikokutei name instead of her. While training/testing Mameda, she claims that she's far less naïve than her when it comes to setting standards.
Utaroku Ebisuya[]
Also part of the "Big Four", Utaroku was with Bunko alongside Byakudanji and Enshi during the early days of Bunko in her human form. He is the last to train/test Mameda to see if she's worthy of holding the Daikokutei name and whether or not Bunko should keep having an apprentice.
Koito[]
Bunko is on good terms with Koito. It's possible that Bunko trusts Koito to keep her secret.

- Her name "文狐", contains 'bun' (文) - which can be associated to writings, and kitsune (狐) translates to fox. In Japanese folklore, kitsune (狐, きつね, are foxes that possess paranormal abilities that increase as they get older and wiser. According to yōkai folklore, all foxes have the ability to shapeshift into human form. Bunko is a kitsune that portrays faithful guardians, a homage to traditional Japanese folktales.
